SOME OF MY...

General Work

Package Design

University Unit:
Publication Design

Description:
This project imagines that each box contains a different variety of one product. For example, x3 different types of pasta, x3 different types of emergency repair kit, x3 related types of small gadget etc. Your choice.

Your initial task is to determine an overall brand identity, and also the x3 variants that sit under this overarching brand. Be strategic about your choice. Pick a product of interest, that may also provide value within your portfolio of work. (Try to move beyond clichés like steaming cups of coffee or piles of coffee beans:)

Accompanying the box is a folded sheet of paper. This sheet is to be printed double-sided. The function of this folded sheet is up to you. Possible suggestions include promotions for other varieties in the range, competitions, brand history, or instructions. Again, your choice

Your client has requested each box to have a distinct ‘colour signature’. Therefore, you must carefully consider how colour will differentiate your three variants.

Additionally, this project requires you to create variation in your surface graphics across all three variants. This means that your solution must involve more than simply changing the colour of the same, repeated graphic elements.

In summary, your final solutions should be visually distinct, while remaining recognisable as part of the same collection.

Secrecy And The Force of truth countering post truth regimes publication

University Unit:
Publication Design

Description:
Design a publication based one of the texts from the list below, that explores and expresses the themes of the text through the use of sophisticated visual language strategies from both functional and expressive perspectives.

You are asked to propose and design a complex, imaginative and expressive publication based on a text selected from the list in the project resources at the head of this page.

This project gives you considerable scope for visual experimentation and expression and should provide you with a key outcome for your folio. Using your research skills to develop an understanding of the visual languages deployed around particular subjects. Combine, hybridise and contextualise to visually articulate your selected text to a contemporary design-aware audience.

You should build on the understanding of publication structure and visual language development you gained through the annual report brief to deliver a compelling and engaging publication outcome.

Your project should convey a strong sense of individuality through the development of a style appropriate to the contemporary moment and the selected subject matter. The work will reflect the skills and concepts developed throughout the semester and provide a means to create a highly articulated personal expression.

You will need to develop and document a flexible grid system that is capable of encompassing all of the different types of information included in the document in multiple sections. The grid will need to support the layout of both text and image components so you should be mindful of the typographic standards that support easy reading over multiple pages.

ABSTRACT: Post-truth regimes are disconcerting to the extent that they confuse the distinction between true and false and thus obfuscate and obstruct political debate. And they dismantle the secret by imitating its habit: they constantly make claims while leaving us to guess what exactly the true content is – or whether there is any content at all.

In an imagined world without secrets, there would be no curiosity or confidentiality, no sincerity or trust, and no political possibility of thinking otherwise. Analysis of the logic of secrecy, the article argues, helps us to revisit the established confidence in our culture in the force of truth, and to confront a challenge post-truth regimes pose: that to establish truth involves affective force. Contrary to the common belief that truth – and secrecy – is something to be revealed, a Foucauldian reading suggests that to mobilize truth requires both truthfulness and a moment of creation.Truth relies on the secret but will always only emerge on the surface.

WORD ASSOCIATION / SECRET / SECRECY: light and Dark, Past Present and Future, Surrecptiousness, Privateness, Stealth, Silence/Silent, Convertness, Unknown, Un-shared, Quiet, Kept, Whisper, Hidden, Buried. TRUTH: Honesty, Believe, Reality, Cause, Belief, Constrcted, Uncovered. LIGHT: Reveal, Expose, Display, Bring to life, Show, Hope, Present, Positive, Warmth, Good, Future, Life, Bright. DARK: Shadows, Sinister, Absence, Hidden, Mystery, Unknown, Negative, Evil, Darkness, Past, Death.

The braille at the front cover means “but secrets can also be revealed”

Social Media Campaign

Client
Silk & Stone Chocolate – Tim Stanford

Team
Studio Delta, Swinburne University of Technology – Tonya, Alec, Nandini, Yan.

As a team, we were asked to create individual design concept, share ideas with the team, present the ideas to the client via online meetings, obtain feedback and submit our strongest final design direction to client.

The client would then choose a final design from one of our team members to use for their social media campaign.

Description:
Silk & Stone chocolate is a company that specializes in producing wine-infused chocolate. Currently, their product range consists of three different flavours (Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon & Pinot Noir), each priced at $19.95 for a 220g bag. They are aiming to expand distribution and stock their products in 100 stores, up from 12 currently. To help with this expansion, Silk & Stone are in need of a social media campaign to create engagement and desire around their brand.

The project goals are as follows:

  • Create curiosity, engagement and desire around the Silk & Stone brand, and get people talking about them through word of mouth and on social media (through specifically social media comments and shares)
  • Turn Silk & Stone into the solution that addresses their target market’s needs
  • Distinguish Silk & Stone from a more ordinary product that might be found at a more mainstream retailer
  • Expand upon the provided pre-existing promotion ideas and make them more engaging
  • Establish Silk & Stone as a luxury brand and item, and a thoughtful gift

Target market:
Silk & Stone chocolate’s primary target audience is Baby Boomers aged (60-75), and their secondary target audience is Gen X (44-59). They are likely to be affluent individuals who prioritize quality, relish new experience, and have a penchant for exploration and travel.
